Should You Have An Office To Run Your Internet Business?

If you are currently a part-time Internet Marketer while still working a full time offline job, you probably perform your Internet Marketing tasks at the office when you can find spare time, or you do them when you get back home from the office.

Now what happens if you are a full time Internet Marketer doing business on the Internet?

Does that mean that you absolutely must have an office space of your own to work on your business?

Of course not!

With the advancement and readily-available technology that we now enjoy, you can run your Internet business from anywhere in the planet, as long as you have a laptop and Internet connection.

I know this may sound cliché, but it’s very true indeed.

Why do you need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars in rental and maintenance fees every month when you can run your own Internet business from the comfort of your home?

You could use the savings that you managed to squeeze for better purposes such as advertising costs, out-tasking part time workers to bring in more traffic and JV partners, outsourcing customer service tasks to third party companies, etc.

This is especially true when you are relatively new in your Internet business and do not have much to spend. You would be a lot better off investing your money wisely in other areas such as those mentioned above.

In this digital era where technology has made our lives so much easier, communications between you and your team can very well take place using emails, instant messaging, and teleconference calls.

And you do not even have to be at your home to run your business. As stated above, you can be anywhere you want, as long as you have a laptop and an Internet connection.

You can enjoy your dream lifestyle like those that are portrayed on sales letters where people sip pina coladas by the beach overlooking the beautiful blue skies with their laptop.

The benefits of running your Internet business from the comfort of your home are that you save money and time in the process.

No longer do you need to spend hours after hours battling that dreaded traffic congestion.

No longer do you have to spend money filling up the gasoline.

Bottom line: you save both time and money, and you relieve some of that traffic congestion stress.

Of course when your business grows too big at some point, having an office dedicated to running your business can catapult your business to new heights.

Lee McIntyre is a great example of this. He has just recently set up his own Internet Marketing office.

Lee is a great Internet Marketer who has earned a substantial amount of money online, so having an office focused on running his Internet business makes sense.

But about you and the average Internet marketer out there who has yet to make some distinguished amount of money online?

Well, my advice is that you work from home for the time being (just like me ).

When your business starts to take off, sit down and plan carefully to achieve bigger goals and objectives. When that happens, maybe you need to seriously consider having an office to run your business just like Lee did.

But before that can happen, you must bring your business to tremendous heights first

5 Reasons Why You Need To Track Your Visitors

I don’t know if you have noticed this or not, but over the past few years, the number of websites is definitely growing at an alarming rate. Everyone and his dog (yes there are even websites dedicated to a person’s pet!) seem to have their own websites.

Blogs are probably one of the most common ways to develop these sites nowadays.

If you do business on the Internet, my very important question to you is: “Do you know your website metrics? Are you tracking your visitors?”

What exactly do I mean by website metrics and tracking visitors?

By that I mean you need to know how your current website is performing so that you can make it better, and so that you can improve your website performance.

Of course the end result is that you maximize your profit earnings!

But before you can undertake any work to improve your current website, you need to first know how it is performing NOW.

I recommend using Google Analytics to track your visitors. It is a great program provided by Google for Free.

There are basically 5 reasons why you need to track your visitors. By tracking your visitors, you’ll be able to know things like:

1. How they found your website

This information is very valuable because if you know that the majority of your visitors are coming from one or two sources only, you can focus your effort and time on these sources.

For example, let’s say that after you have done your homework, you discover that most of your visitors are coming from Google using a certain keyword phrase, and very few of them are coming from a banner ad that you pay to put up on website x.

This means that you should focus your time and effort optimizing for that keyword phrase, so that your website appears on the first page of Google.

2. How many visitors visit your site each day

This information is also very important to you as a website owner. Knowing this number will allow you to get an idea of how popular your site is.

When you know this number, you can strive to find ways to increase the number of visitors to your site.

But before you can judge if your promotion efforts are in fact bringing in any results or not, you must know your current position first – in this case the number of visitors who go to your site daily.

Get this number first before you start finding ways to increase traffic

3. How long they stay on your site

The longer your visitors stay on your site, usually the better your content is. Of course, just one person staying on your site for 1 hour does not warranty that your site’s content is superb.

You need to have more visitors who stay longer on your site to justify that your site’s content is indeed great.

The converse is also true as well. If most of your visitors stay only very briefly on your site, usually it is a sign that you need to improve on your content.

4. Which pages they visit

By knowing which pages they visit, you can get an idea of what topics garner the most interests by your visitors.

For example, topics like “make money with Adsense” are usually more popular than topics such as “make money through typist job”.

Well I think you get the idea :)

When you have this handy information at your fingertips, you can post more content that is related with “make money with Adsense”, which your visitors like.

5. How well do they convert to subscribers and buyers

By effectively tracking your visitors, you can also get specific numbers like how many percent of your visitors become free subscribers, and how many percent of your visitors become buyers.

Terry Dean has done an awesome job outlining this. Head on to his blog now to see what he has to say.

Having read this far, you should have seen and understood the benefits of tracking your visitors. If you don’t track, you don’t know your metrics. And if you don’t know your metrics, you can’t improve your conversions, and if you can’t improve your conversions, you can’t maximize your profits.

If you are currently not tracking your website visitors, you are losing money every single second!

Go to Google Analytics and open a free account now. Do not procrastinate, just do it now!

Yay! Google Adwords Keyword Tool Update

Just a few days ago, Google had just updated its Google Adwords Keyword Tool in a way that will definitely benefit us as Internet Marketers.

So what’s the update about?

Well, if you have used this tool previously, you should know that this tool used to present the volume of searches for a specific set of keywords in a green bar fashion, and when you hover your mouse over these green bars, it would say “low search volume”, “avg search volume”, “high search volume”, etc.

In other words, it does not give us the exact number of searches performed for that specific set of keywords. It just gave us an idea of how popular they are.

Not very helpful isn’t it? (Although it’s still better than nothing).

We still need to use other sources to guestimate (guest estimate) the number of searches performed on that specific set of keywords.

Well now you don’t have to do any guestimate work anymore because Google Adwords Keyword Tool will give you the volume of searches not in a green bar fashion anymore, but instead it will give it to you in numbers!

Talk about convenience and how this will help us to more accurately predict the demand for a given set of keywords.

And when you know the demand for that given set of keywords, you can predict how popular that niche is.

Enough of the talk, let’s see this tool in action shall we?

Go to Google Keyword Tool:

Type in “home theater” as shown above and click “get keyword ideas”.

As can be seen from above, the keyword phrase “home theater” is searched 3,350,000 times in the US for the month of June 2008.

This means that “home theater” is searched 111,666 times in the US per day. This indicates “home theater” is a very popular keyword.

If you go down the list and take “home theater system”, “home theater design”, “home theater installation”, etc. into consideration, you will discover that the home theater niche is indeed a very popular niche that is in very high demand.

For your case, you simply need to type in the keywords you are interested in researching, and then click the “get keyword ideas” button.

So it can be seen that with this updated tool that will give us the search volume of a specific set of keywords in numbers, we can definitely predict the popularity of any niche more accurately than before.

Now we don’t have to stare at those green bars and wonder how much “low search volume”, “avg search volume”, or “high search volume” translates into numbers anymore. No more guestimating.

Excellent job, Google!

Seriously, I really am happy and excited about this updated tool as I am sure that it will benefit me and other Internet Marketers in terms of doing keyword and niche research.

What about you? What do you think of this updated tool?

Are Those High Paying Adsense Keywords For Real?

Once in a while I would go to Google and do a search on “high paying adsense keywords”.

I generally don’t believe in sites that claim certain keywords pay up to $30 or $50 per click, but just for the fun of it, I would occasionally go to Google and look for these types of keywords.

Just for fun you see :)

For example, since this is now July 2008, I would type in “high paying adsense keywords july 2008″ in Google and click “search”.

The latest result that I can find is a post written on this blog on March 9, 2008 (I’m just too lazy to be going through page 7 and above of Google’s search results).

According to this blog, the top 5 high paying Adsense keywords are:

========================

austin dwi $66.89
austin dwi attorney $58.30
san diego dui attorney $54.56
houston criminal attorney $47.44
san diego dui $42.83

========================

What do you think?

Do you believe that you can get paid up to $66/click for the keywords “Austin dwi” or $42 for the keywords “Austin dwi attorney”?

Like I have stated above, I generally don’t believe in these hyped-up numbers. But that’s just my opinion though:P

Why not use the Google Keywords Tool to see how accurate these numbers are?

Below I’ve made a table that summarizes the numbers:

Keywords Blog Google Keyword Tool Difference
austin dwi $66.89 $9.84 $57.05
austin dwi attorney $58.30 $10.27 $48.03
san diego dui attorney $54.56 $12.26 $42.30
houston criminal attorney $47.44 $9.18 $38.26
san diego dui $42.83 $12.61 $30.22

Well, as can be seen from the above screenshots, there is clearly a huge difference between the numbers given by the Google Keyword Tool and those that are written on the blog I found.

And let’s not forget that the numbers given by the Google Keyword Tool are actually numbers that you would have to pay if you want to bid on those keywords on Google Adwords.

What this means is that the numbers for Adsense payouts will be smaller than those given by the Google Keyword Tool.

And to add to that, don’t forget that you also have to split your Adsense earnings with Google. This makes your earnings even smaller!

So my take on these “high paying Adsense keywords” is that don’t take their numbers too seriously. I really don’t believe anyone can get paid $66 for a single click!

However, in my opinion, the blog is partially correct in saying that the keywords listed are “high paying keywords”.

Well I’d certainly put $9/click in the high paying category.

What about you?

The highest pay per click that Adsense has awarded me was $3 though, although it’s not about austin dwi or san diego dui or anything similar to that.

Stupid People Succeed Faster?

When it comes to Internet Marketing or business in general, the hardest part is making that first move.

That first elusive move or action that has the ability to turn around your destiny.

Yesterday while I was driving to pick up my girlfriend from work, I tuned in to a local business radio station.

There was this talk show called “Stupid people succeed faster”. Although it didn’t say faster than what, I can only assume faster than smart people?

Anyway, the guy behind this “Stupid people succeed faster” talk show is a somewhat well-known local businessman in my country. I have heard of his name before, though I forgot where. Maybe it’s through the local magazines or newspapers portraying his businesses and how successful he is.

The radio show went on to talk about how “stupid people” with only junior high or high school education, because of their ignorance, are not afraid to try new things.

These “stupid people” are not going to analyze all the possible scenarios before they try on something new. They would just go out there and take action, and if any problems arise, they just deal with it on a case by case basis.

Contrast this with the way how “smart people” (you know those with bachelor’s or master’s degree) would do things. These guys would plan ahead and analyze every possible scenario.

They would not take any action at all unless everything is planned out carefully and flawlessly. As you might already knew, nothing is perfect and you can’t expect to embark on something new and don’t face any unexpected problems along the way.

That, in a nutshell, is basically what the radio show is trying to convey.

I agree with the speaker to a certain extent in that unexpected problems do happen, and we can’t be perfect trying to plan everything before we actually take any action.

I do, however, disagree that we have to take action without any planning at all. In my opinion, if you fail to plan, you also plan to fail.

My view is that you still need to plan what you want to do. Just don’t try to be a perfectionist trying to plan and analyze every possible scenario before you actually take action. This will lead to action-paralysis, and eventually you take no action at all.

And if you take no action at all, then you achieve nothing!

I was once a perfectionist-wannabe as well. I would over analyze things down to every last detail.

And you know what, the more I analyze and plan, the more confused I became.

Fast forward a few years later (which is now) I have finally learned to take things a little easier and just let everything flow without much analysis.

It does not mean that I don’t plan and analyze before I do something. I still do, it’s just to a much lesser extent.

Mind you, I certainly don’t want to suffer from brain damage!

What about you?

Do you over analyze and over complicate situations and problems?

Money Blogging or Personal Blogging?

If you take a look around the web today, you will find that there are a large number of blogs out there.

The reason why blogs have become so popular is because it is so easy to build and maintain that almost anyone can do it. Yes, even those people without technical background knowledge.

Now these blogs cover a wide variety of different subjects; ranging from blogs about teens who want to network with their friends, blogs about the hottest and latest music, blogs about cars, blogs about politics, entertainment, food, fashion, finance, etc.

The list goes on and on.

Whatever the topic of the blog, it can be categorized into two types of blog: Personal Blogging or Money Blogging.

Personal Blogging means that you are blogging simply  for the fun of it. You blog because you want to share your feelings and opinions, because you want to network with your friends and peers. You don’t expect anything in return other than the good feeling it brings.

Money Blogging, on the hand, is blogging for the sake of making money from your blog. Yeah, you may enjoy what you blog about and you may feel good about it, but the real reason behind why you blog is because of the money it can bring.

Now let us take a look at the nature of these 2 different blogs.

Folks who are involved in Personal Blogging typically use free blog platforms like Blogger.com or WordPress.com. Using these blog platforms virtually doesn’t cost any money as you only need to pay for your ISP (Internet Service Provider) fee and electricity fee for your PC.

People who indulge in Money Blogging usually use blog platforms like WordPress.org This is different from WordPress.com in that it (WordPress.org) requires your own domain and hosting.

There are, however, in some few cases where people are also using free blog platforms for Money Blogging.

So which one are you? Personal or Money Blogging?

Or maybe you haven’t got a blog yet?

There are still people out there who don’t have a clue that blogging can bring in money, real good money.

If only they knew, I bet a lot of them would switch to Money Blogging, don’t you think?

For instance, when I told a friend of mine that one can earn money by blogging, his reactions was: “Yeah right, how exactly will blogging earn me money? Blogging is just for personal stuff you want to share with your friends and family. You enjoy doing for the fun of it. Nothing more.”

See?

My response to him was: “I’m serious, you can really make money from blogging. You just need to blog consistently and bring in visitors to your blog on a consistent basis, and when your blog gets crowded, you can sell advertising space on your blog.”

This is called monetizing your blog.

So if you currently own a blog but have not monetized it yet, why not switch from Personal Blogging to Money Blogging?

You would blog the same way you have always did, the only difference lies in the fact that you are going to sell some space on your blog for advertising purposes.

One of the easiest ways to monetize your blog is through Google Adsense. Every time someone clicks on one of these ads, you are paid.

As simple and straightforward as that!

There are other ways to make money from your blog other than through selling advertising space. I will cover these in later posts.

For now, just keep in mind that you can always switch from Personal Blogging to Money Blogging anytime. Since you have already made the effort and time to write to your blog, why not make some money in the process?

You don’t have to do any additional significant work. You just slap some Google Adsense ads and you are good to go.

And if you don’t have a blog yet, why not?

Go out there NOW (not tomorrow or next week), and start blogging on the topic of your interest!

Creating and maintaining a blog is really simple. All you need to do is just write your content and then click “publish”, and your blog is live and ready to be seen and recognized by the world.

Creating your blog is definitely easier than creating a site using Dreamweaver or Frontpage!

So which one are you? Personal Blogging or Money Blogging?

The Easiest Way To Create Your First Website

Do you have a website of your own yet?

If yes, that’s great.

If you still don’t have a website yet, why not?

It’s really easy nowadays to create your first website with the different content management systems available. Compare that with the past when you need to understand HTML just to create a simple static website and you’ll feel so grateful that you are living in 2008 :)

The easiest and best way is to create your website is through a blog.

Why is this so?

Well, because:

1. Search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Live love blogs

Blogs are easily indexed by these search engines. The more blog pages that are indexed, the higher the probability your blog will appear in the search engine’s query results.

What this in turn means is, of course, the higher the probability that someone will come across your blog and clicks on it.

2. Very easy to install

You don’t need to have complex programming skills in order to set up a blog, although a little HTML would help in doing some customization to your blog.

Overall, it’s pretty much straightforward with its highly intuitive point-and-click platform.

3. Installs in 2 minutes

Yes,it takes only 2 minutes to install your blog and get it up and running. Can you find something else that will install faster? Don’t think so!

4. Every Internet Marketer has a blog

What about you? Care to join them (and me) to make some real money?

5. Very easy to maintain

With its highly intuitive admin dashboard, managing posts and pages, adding and deleting links, and posting new content become very easy.

Now that you have seen for yourself the advantages and pros of creating your website through a blog, it is now time to choose a blog platform.

There are a number of blog platforms available, such as WordPress.org, Blogger, Drupal, Typepad, and MovableType.

I highly recommend WordPress.org as it gives you a lot more flexibility and options to tweak and customize your blog according to what you want.

If you are just starting out, you probably have little or no money to spend on domain and hosting. If this is you, then you might want to register for a Free domain and get Free hosting as well.

However, if you have some money ($10 per year for domain and $3-$10 per month for hosting) to spare, I highly suggest that you register your own domain that ends with a .com and register for a paid hosting account.

Having your own .com domain name looks much more professional, and having your own paid hosting account is much better than free hosting because they will provide you with support should you have any questions or if anything goes wrong.

The Most Straightforward Way To Make Money Online

Newbie trying their hands to make money online are often confused how they can actually “make money online”.

They often ask themselves questions such as: “Where exactly is the online money at and how can I take advantage of this opportunity and make some money myself?”

If you are one of these beginners, I would recommend to you that the most straightforward and simplest way to make money online is through ads marketing or ads monetization.

What exactly is Ads marketing or Ads monetization?

Ads marketing or Ads monetization simply means that you earn money by selling advertising space to advertisers.

As simple and straightforward as that!

Traditional newspapers and magazines, which have been around for ages, make money by selling advertising space.

In the online world of Internet Marketing, it is practically the same. You can make money by selling advertising space on your website.

To successfully sell advertising space, you need to:

1. Set up a website of your own

Currently, the easiest way to set up you own website is by using a blog. I recommend using a WordPress blog if you have a little money to spare to buy domain and hosting. However, if you have no money, you can also set up a Free Blogger blog.

To find out more about setting up your WordPress or Blogger blog, you can grab my FREE report “Your First $100 Online” just by subscribing to this blog on the top right of this page.

2. Put in valuable content to your blog on a consistent basis

Now that you have your blog set up, the next thing you need to do is to put in valuable content to your blog.

Now pay special attention when I say “valuable content”. You must give valuable content that is beneficial to your blog readers, not just some rubbish and low quality content that you simply copy from another blog and paste it into your own blog.

By entertaining your blog readers on a consistent basis with valuable content that is useful to them, you make them happy they are more likely to return to your blog in the future.

These readers are also likely to recommend their friends to your blog if they feel they have benefited by reading the content on your blog.

The more people who know your blog, the higher your blog’s traffic, which lead us to point number 3…

3. Drive traffic on a consistent basis

Creating great content on your blog is terrific, but you need to do some promotion so that people know your blog exists in the first place.

There are a number of ways to drive traffic to your blog:

- write articles and submit them to article directories like Ezine Articles and Go Articles

- if you have some budget, you can use PPC (pay-per-click) advertising like Google Adwords

- social bookmark your blog’s content on sites such as Del.icio.us, StumbleUpon, and Digg

- participate in 1 or 2 forum discussions related to your niche

- trackback to other high profile bloggers’ posts from your posts

- comment on other blogs in the same niche

4. Finally, make money by selling advertising space on your blog

When your blog is visited by a lot  of people (hundreds or thousands) daily, you are ready to sell advertising space on your blog to make some money.

You can do this by selling advertising space directly without the help of third party vendors by putting up your own “Advertise here” page on your blog.

Some people, however, don’t want the hassle of handling the administration work of receiving payments, setting up and activating/de-activating ads, etc.

If this is you, then you can always enlist their help of third parties such as Google Adsense or Adbrite. They take care of all the administration processes, so all you need to do is just collect money if there are advertisers who want to advertise on your blog.

6 Traits You Should Possess To Succeed In Internet Marketing

In my previous post, I’ve laid out 5 reasons why most people attempting to make money online fail.

Today we are going to look at what traits or characteristics you really need in order to be successful in building a real Internet business.

There are 6 traits that you should possess:

1. Just do it

Human beings tend to over-analyze and over-complicate things and situations. This is especially true if you’re new at something.

Beginners trying their hands in making money online typically suffer action-paralysis. They are so afraid of making a wrong move that they end up not taking any action at all.

Doing something, even though it’s wrong, is still better than not doing anything at all.

If you just sit there and do nothing, you are bound to learn and accomplish nothing.

If you do something, you are bound to learn something and may or may not accomplish something.

Hello? Can you see how you are missing out when you don’t do anything at all?

And the other thing is that people tend to want to become perfectionists.

How can you do things perfectly when you’re just starting out and you don’t really know much about the subject?

Heck, even advanced Internet marketers still do wrong things every day, yet they continue to make money!

So my advice is to just do it! Just like Nike’s slogan J Making that first move is always the hardest, but once you start going, it will be easier consequently.

2. Open mindset, positive attitude, and a desire to learn

You must possess an open mindset and a desire to learn so that you can learn and absorb new things every day.

Your attitude plays a major role in determining your success in whatever field you choose to indulge in, not just in Internet Marketing.

Be confident of yourself, think positive. DO NOT say discouraging things to yourself such as “I can’t do this” or “I’m not a techie guy therefore I can’t succeed” bla bla bla…

Have you heard of the saying “You become what you think”? Well, let me tell you that this is very true indeed.

So instead of reinforcing negative beliefs that you are not capable of doing this and that, why don’t you install positive beliefs to yourself?

3. Treat it as a real business

To succeed in any endeavor, you need to focus and put a lot of effort and time in doing things that will eventually lead to your goals.

You must treat Internet Marketing as a real business, just like you would if you were to open a brick and mortar business.

You can’t say things like “Well, I’m just trying so it’s okay if I don’t do this right”, or “I’ll just try and see if this works, if not then I’ll try something else different”.

The problem with saying these kinds of things to yourself is that you don’t treat it seriously and if you don’t treat is seriously you simply can’t get any results!

4. Stay consistent

Do small things on a consistent basis to ensure that you build your online assets over time.

Success in the Internet business or in any kind of business is not about doing what is required only once or twice or thrice. It’s about putting in your effort consistently.

When you are just starting out, you can definitely start working on your Internet business part time. It’s definitely not a problem.

Hey, I started part time too 2 years ago :P

The important thing to always remember is to build your Internet business on a consistent basis over time.

Little baby steps can eventually lead to big results too.

5. Stay motivated

Initially when you are just starting out, you won’t see any results. You must, however, stay motivated and just keep on going.

It’s not because it’s Internet Marketing that you are not seeing results. It takes time and dedication to see real results, and it applies to any new endeavor you embark.

When you are feeling down or discouraged, seek ways to motivate yourself by going to your local bookstore and buy motivational and inspirational books, audios, or videos. You can also go to Google and do a search on motivational sites.

Get yourself pumped up whenever you are feeling down alright?

6. Stay humble

Always stay humble.

Yes, even when you are already making some money, do stay humble please.

Nobody knows everything, and by staying humble you’ll always be able to learn new things.

If you are arrogant, you will think that you know everything and that you are the best out there. When this happens, you stop learning.

Given the rate at how technology advances every day, when you stop learning you will eventually be left behind. When this happens, be prepared to say goodbye to your Internet business!
