How To Improve Time Management – The 3 Golden Principles

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

how to improve time management

I’m sure almost everyone will agree with me when I say there is always not enough time to do what we want to do. We all want to have more time. 24 hours is simply not enough.

Since we can’t fit more than 24 hours in a day, what can we do about it?

The solution is to learn how to improve time management.

Below I’d like to share with you 3 GOLDEN principles that are BOUND to help you manage your time A LOT better so that you can finish what you want to do in MUCH LESS time than what it would take you if you weren’t applying these principles.

Last month I’ve just finished reading the famous book “The 4-Hour Work Week” (I know I know! I should’ve read that ages ago…)

Like many people, I’m very impressed by the book and the concepts and ideas taught within. So I decided to immediately implement a few of the strategies in my business as they really made sense to me.

After all, there is no point in spending your precious time reading a book when you don’t actually implement what it taught but only saying to yourself “ohhh… so this is how it’s done. I see…”

There are 3 key concepts from the book that I’ve implemented:

1. The 80/20 Rule

2. Parkinson’s Law

3. The Email Rule

I’m actually already aware of some of the principles above even before reading the 4-Hour Work Week, however like I’ve said above, simply knowing and not implementing will not help your business at all. As the saying goes “to know and not yet to do is not yet to know”.

1. The 80/20 Rule (Pareto Principle)

This rule states that 20% of our actions will determine 80% of our results. I’m sure that you’ve heard it umpteen times and have long known about it.

But my question is: Have you implemented it?

I’ve spent some time thinking hard what are the VERY FEW UTMOST IMPORTANT activities (the 20%) in my business that I know if I did will directly result in 80% of the revenue.

(… well it may not necessarily be 80% - but you get the idea)

The 80/20 rule not only applies to the business activities or priorities you have in your business. When it comes to customers, this principle holds true as well.

You should FOCUS servicing the 20% of your customers that bring in 80% of the revenue.

What about the remaining 80% of customers? Well you can still do business with them, however don’t spend too much effort and time as they only contribute to only a small fraction of your revenue.

Let me ask you a question: which would you rather be doing business with? 5 customers that contribute to your organization’s 80% or 100 customers that only contributes to the 20%?

I’d take the former any day.

Speaking of customers, there are also customers that are worth FIRING. Usually they belong to the 80% that contributes only the 20%. These people spend very little money on our business yet they demand and complain A LOT. They EXPECT to be treated like kings.

I say FIRE them! I’ve done the same in my business and you should too. I can guarantee that you’ll free up a lot of time and headaches and your business will soar to new heights now that you can concentrate on servicing the20% of your customers BETTER.

I have now identified the 20% that I should focus most of my time and effort on. Let’s wait and see how much things are going to take off in my business.

I also talk about the Pareto Principle in an earlier post: 5 Reasons Why Most People Fail To Earn Money Online

2. Parkinson’s Law

Taken from Wikipedia, Parkinson’s Law means:

“Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.”

In simpler words, the more time you allocate to getting a specific task done, the more “perceived” work you have to do.

I say “perceived” because often the case, you can complete the same quality (sometimes even better) work within a shorter period of time, when the time allocated to getting the task done shrinks.

Why does this happen?

One answer: Because of GREATER FOCUS.

Think about it: when you’re assigned to complete a project and you’re given 3 months to do it, how much time would you take to complete it?

Answer: 3 months, right until the last minute.

If I point a gun at your head and demanded that you complete the same task in 1 month, do you think you can do it?

Absolutely! And the final output would be of equal or higher quality, all because of GREATER FOCUS.

Use Parkinson’s Law in your business to shorten work time to getting only the VERY IMPORTANT things done.

3. The Email Rule

Do you check email first thing in the morning before doing anything else? Or do you check your email every 5 minutes?

For most people, the answer is Yes.

If so, you must STOP this bad habit now as this is ruining your business!

Checking your email first thing in the morning before doing anything else is not effective. Instead of completing the most important tasks for that day first, you aimlessly wander around reading emails after emails.

Most of them are useless and time-wasters anyway. Countless news gossips and forwarded humor messages that do not add any value to your business but only drain your time and energy away.

By the time you’re done checking your email and forwarding useless messages, you’ve wasted precious time already.

This becomes worse when you turn on automatic send/receive within your Outlook. Every 5 minutes you’re interrupted by new email messages (that most likely are personal time fillers instead of work-related).

You should never begin the day by checking your email first. Instead you ought to get the most important things done first (the 20%).

How do you know which are the 20% that need to be completed first?

You do that by having a pre-written task list the night before of what you want to accomplish the next day. Never, ever begin the day without having a list of what you want to accomplish. Always have one made the night before. Doing this will DRAMATICALLY improve your productivity.

Tim (the author of The 4-Hour Work Week) recommends checking your email at most twice daily, which is what I’m currently doing. Seemingly “urgent” matters are seldom urgent, and people are poor judgments of that.

Conclusion

There are a lot more strategies and tactics covered in the book, you can get yourself a copy of the book at Amazon or your local bookstore.

I highly recommend you read it as I believe you’ll benefit a lot from it, just as I’ve benefited. Remember though, simply reading and knowing won’t do you any good if you don’t put it into practice.

To achieve maximum productivity in your business, use the 80/20 rule in conjunction with Parkinson’s Law:

1. Identify the 20% tasks that lead to 80% revenue (80/20 rule)

2. Assign very short datelines to get the 20% tasks done (Parkinson’s Law)

World Class Customer Service - How To Handle Customer Complaints

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

world class customer service 1 world class customer service 2

Whatever business you’re in, there are bound to be customer complaints. You simply can’t please everybody. Even if you’ve provided world class customer service and done your absolute best to deliver your promise to customers, complaints are inevitable.

In this article, I’d like to discuss the issue of customer complaints. This will be divided into 3 parts:

1. WHY customers complain

2. WHAT to do about it

3. HOW to handle complaints

It is important to first and foremost understand WHY customers complain. Only after comprehending the reasons behind their complaints can we think of a plan on WHAT to do about it. Then again, simply knowing what to do about it is not enough, which is why we need to learn HOW to handle their complaints.

WHY Customers Complain

Customers buy your products and services because they want to solve problems and are looking for solutions to overcome these problems.

When they buy your dating e-course, they want to get dating partners fast.

When they buy your software, it’s because they want to save time and effort by NOT doing the same repetitive tasks manually.

When they buy a Nintendo Wii, it’s because they want to give it to their children as presents so that they’re regarded as “good parents” or so that the children want to do their schoolwork as part of an agreement, or they simply love playing games (for a whole bunch of different reasons).

So in a nutshell they buy because they’re looking for solutions to solve their problems.

Now, when they’re unable to solve their problems after buying your products or services, some will complain, REGARDLESS of whether your product doesn’t deliver on its promises or because it’s their fault for not following the instructions and guide that came with your product.

In any case, they complain.

WHAT To Do About It

When a customer complains about your product or service, it’s human tendency to be very EMOTINAL about it. By this I mean our emotional instincts take over and completely block out how we think LOGICALLY.

For the past few years, we’ve often heard that we need to be more emotionally intelligent if we want to be successful. It simply isn’t enough to just have a very high IQ but on the other hand possess a poor EQ (emotional quotient).

As far as that might sound to be true, when are talking about customer complaints, we want to think as logically as we possibly can. We need to think about the long term effects these complaints will have on our business.

What we should do is ACKNOWLEDGE their complaints - to do this we need to be thinking very logically instead of emotionally.

When we think logically we can analyze the situation based on what “good” or “benefits” will come out of it.

If we were to think emotionally, we tend to be VERY DEFENSIVE about our products and DO NOT want to acknowledge their complaints and instead defend our products…

Take a look at the following scenario:

================================================================

Customer:

I want a refund ASAP. You liar! Your product sucks and doesn’t deliver on its promises! You’re wasting my precious time and if you don’t honor my refund request, I’m going to bad-mouth you to ever person I encounter!

You:

You claimed that my product sucks. Which part of it? My product is one of the best of its kind, and if you think it sucks, it’s because you don’t know how to use it! As stated in the guarantee, I only honor refunds if you can prove to me that you’ve been using my product exactly as stated in the guide. If not, there is no refund!

Customer:

You stupid jerk! Bla bla bla…

================================================================

I’m pretty sure the above scenario would continue in a heated argument. Customer and you (the product owner) will even be A LOT angrier and more pissed off than ever.

The argument never ends, and the problem is not solved.

End Result: Customer never buys anything from you ever again, and he bad-mouths you everywhere he goes. You saved a little money by not honoring his refund, but you LOSE A LOT MORE in the long term as your image and brand gets tarnished.

Conclusion: It’s a lose-lose situation for both parties.

HOW To Handle Complaints

Instead of getting into a heated debate of who’s right and who’s wrong, you should instead think about the long term effects this customer complaint will have on your business.

Still the same scenario, but take a look at how you can address the complaint in a much more EFFECTIVE manner:

================================================================

Customer:

I want a refund ASAP. You liar! Your product sucks and doesn’t deliver on its promises! You’re wasting my precious time and if you don’t honor my refund request, I’m going to bad-mouth you to ever person I encounter!

You:

Thank you for your complaint. We’d certainly be glad to honor your refund. Not a problem at all. Just for our feedback, may I know which part of the product did not deliver to its promises? This would certainly help us pinpoint where we need more improvements so that we can deliver more value to our customers like yourself.

Customer:

Your product did not do X Y Z as claimed bla bla bla

================================================================

Now what do you think will happen if you were to handle a customer complaint like that?

End Result: Customer goes home happy and *maybe* feel a little bad about requesting a refund. You might lose a little money by honoring his refund, but at least he doesn’t go everywhere and bad-mouths your product.

Even more valuable than this is the fact that you get valuable customer feedback about your product. This will enable you to improve your current product and thus make it more powerful and complete than before.

Lessons To Be Learned

I hope you can see and understand the importance of effectively handling customer complaints. There are basically 3 parts to it:

1. ACKNOWLEDGE customers’ complaints about your product.

2. Make it up to them as much as you possibly can (gladly honor a refund if they ask for it; if they didn’t ask for a refund, you can also refund their money to “surprise” and “wow” them). Saying “sorry” is NOT enough. To see a REAL case study of how I did this in my business, click here.

3. Ask for their feedback which part of your product does not deliver, and strive to improve your product.

How do you handle customer complaints? I’d love to hear your thoughts about your view of world class customer service, so please leave them in a comment below…

Internet Business Requirements - Know Them First

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Before you get all excited at the thought of starting your very own Internet business, there are 3 VERY important Internet business requirements / points you need to bear in mind.

First: Just Like Any Other Business

First, running an Internet business is just like any other business. You need to put in hard work and effort, and dedicated time to see results. It’s not about getting rich quickly or making a lot of money without any work.

An Internet business is just another business model, though it’s hard to argue that there’s a better business model (at least in my opinion) out there.

In order for anyone to really succeed online, you need to have the right mindset. Think about a conventional brick and mortar business. I like to use restaurants to illustrate my point.

Suppose you want to open a new restaurant in your local neighborhood. My questions to you are:

- Is it going to be EASY?

- Can your restaurant make a lot of money quickly without doing anything, or with minimal effort?

The answers to the above questions are of course: NO!

Second: Marketing And Entrepreneurial Skills

Second, running a successful Internet business requires that you have at least some knowledge of marketing and entrepreneurial skills.

Without these two, it’s VERY hard, if not impossible, to make it big.

What about programming and all other technical stuff? Don’t you need to posses those skills as well in order to succeed online?

NO.

Why?

Because you can outsource those to professionals who know what they’re doing and who can do a much better job than you at much less time.

Possessing marketing and entrepreneurial skills is, however, a MUST if you want to make it big online. These 2 skills are much more important than any other skills.

Marketing - if you know how to market your products and services effectively, the job is already half-done. The next thing you need to do is to figure out how to convert prospects to customers, and how to persuade them to become REPEAT customers.

Once your customer base (and hence your revenues and profits) increases and your business gets momentum and takes off, the next step is to figure out how to make your business run without you.

After all, the whole purpose of starting and running a successful Internet business is to reap maximum profits without any or minimal input on your part.

This is entirely possible, BUT to achieve this you need to possess entrepreneurial skills.

Of course, when you’re just starting out, you most likely do everything yourself because you’re on a very tight budget. That’s not a problem at all.

In fact, most successful Internet business owners start out like that. When they see considerable profits coming in, they reinvest their profits into human resources to help them in their business. Doing this allows them to LEVERAGE other people’s skills and time.

This process of recruiting team members repeats itself over time as the business profits gets bigger and bigger.

As time goes by, the business owner can afford not to work at all and profits will keep pouring in.

I’m sure you’ve heard of people saying things like “making lots of money without doing anything” or “making thousands of dollars every day even while on vacation by the beach”….

While this is true, some VERY important parts are left out.

They didn’t mention the FACT that you can only achieve that after you’ve done the initial hard work of starting your business and then creating systems in place.

Because they didn’t tell the whole story, most people (especially beginners) have the wrong perception that starting and running a profitable Internet business is easy and you can get rich quickly without doing any or minimal work.

Third: Invest Money To Make Big Money

The third point to consider when you want to start your own Internet business is that you need to invest money in order to make big money online (and offline as well).

This is a REAL business and you should treat it as such.

Going back to the restaurant example, do you expect to run a successful restaurant business without any investment at all?

Yes, there are a lot of Free ebooks, reports, audio and video trainings that show you how to do this and that. However, bear in mind that even if you learn the “how-to” of running a successful Internet business for Free without buying any paid educational products, you still have bills to pay every single month.

Monthy operational expenses such as such as hosting and autoresponder fees, as well as other tools that help move your business forward can’t be avoided.

In short, you simply CAN’T start run an Internet business without investing any money. PERIOD!

However the good news is that you can certainly do that with a shoestring budget.

Recap

So before decide to jump into the “I want to start an Internet business” bandwagon, make sure that you understand these 3 important Internet business requirements / points first:

1. Running a profitable Internet business is not about getting rich quickly without doing any work. It’s about putting in hard work and dedicated time.

2. You need to possess marketing and entrepreneurial skills to be able to make it big. Other technical or administrative work can be outsourced.

3. There is no such thing as “running a profitable Internet business without investing any money”. Understand and realize that this is a real business. Real business requires real money.

Be Specific Please…

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Which do you think sounds better and more convincing?

“Lose 20 pounds in 10 days”

Or

“Lose a lot of weight in a short period of time”?

If you are like most people, of course the first statement sounds better and more convincing.

Why?

Well, it’s because the first statement uses specifics. Losing 20 pounds in 10 days is much more specific than simply saying “lose a lot of weight in a short period of time”.

In fact, the latter statement sounds very vague. How much is a lot of weight? What is considered a short period of time?

For someone, losing 20 pounds is a lot whereas to another person it may be very little.

For John, a short period of time is less than a week while Peter thinks that one day is a “short period of time”.

Do you see where I’m going with this? And do you know why practicing specifics are much better than not using specifics (of course this depends on the situation, but in the example above, it’s certainly a lot better to use specifics)?

It’s because when you are specific, it adds more credibility. The more specific you get, the more detailed the information will be. People trust you more when you are more specific.

Think about it for a second.

If you were an overweight person looking for ways to reduce your weight, and you were presented with the above two offers, which one would you buy trust more and eventually buy from?

Of course the first one, which is “Lose 20 pounds in 10 days”!

Generally speaking a person who is lying will find it more difficult to practice specifics, compared to someone who is practicing specifics based on true events that happened.

Don’t you agree?

So how can this benefit your business?

When constructing offers, be it sales letters or squeeze pages, it would be a lot better if you use specifics as opposed to simply providing general information which anyone can just come up on the top of their heads.

For sales letter, I’m pretty sure that if you were to add some specific information (especially numbers) to your marketing message, you can increase your sales percentage.

For squeeze page, the same principle applies. The more specific you get, the more credible it will be, and provided everything else stays the same, I’ll bet that your opt-in rate will increase.

When you are setting goals or targets, be specific as well. (By the way, the beginning of the year (which is now) is always a popular time to set new goals and targets for the year ahead). When your goals are specific, it will be easier to achieve.

For example, if your goal is to achieve a net profit of $5000/month from your business, it is going to be easier to achieve than if your goal is to simply “earn more money”.

Do you see the difference?

When you set a specific goal, your mind can visualize easier and hence work toward that goal much more efficiently. If you merely set a goal to “earn more money”, your brain will be confused as to what exactly constitutes “more money”.

Does earning $10 more per month constitutes as earning more money? It certainly is in English terms!

Crazy Guru Promo Emails

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

If you have been running an Internet business for some time now, or if you are marketing your products and services online, you are probably aware of the significant role of email marketing.

I firmly believe that email marketing can make or break your business.

How is that so?

Well, it’s very simple actually.

You see, if you keep sending promo emails after promo emails to your subscribers without giving them any real, valuable content that can benefit them, you are bound to break your business.

There are quite a number of well-known Internet marketers who do that, but I won’t name names here.

How do I know?

Because of the simple fact that I’ve been in their lists for quite some time now - and all the emails they sent are 100% ALWAYS promo emails persuading me to buy the “next big thing”.

Luckily I have specifically created a Gmail account for the sole purpose of receiving these “junk” emails so that I can glance at them when I some time to spare.

And you know what I think as a subscriber when I receive their emails?

Inside my mind I keep wondering how these guys operate?

I mean, here they are sending me promo emails after promo emails saying their “buddies” and “good friends” have just stumbled upon some unbelievable hidden “secrets” since the discovery of slice bread and that these “secrets” are the only thing we need to buy.

Then a few days later we receive another email from the same guy saying the same thing, except this time the product or service they recommend is different.

I thought that the last product they recommend is the last thing we need to buy?

Hmm…

I figured that the way they operate is simply hammering their email lists cross-promoting each other’s products.

For example, let’s say this network consists of 5 Internet marketing “gurus”.

Guru 1 would promote Guru 2’s products today.

A few days later, Guru 2 would promote Guru 3’s products.

Then a few days later, Guru 3 would promote Guru 4’s products.

So they cycle typically looks like this:

Guru 1 => Guru 2 => Guru 3 => Guru 4 => Guru 5 => Guru 1

Please note that this may not be necessarily true. It is just my own personal opinion.

Having explained how email marketing can break your business, now I’m going to share with you how email marketing can make your business.

In order to successfully sell your products and services to your subscribers, you first need to build beneficial and trusting relationships with them first.

Today, your subscribers have a lot of choices when it comes to buying products and services related to your industry.

The biggest and most important question (for you as a product/service owner) is: Why should they buy from you?

What makes you unique compared to your competitors?

Sure, price maybe a very important factor. But you can’t just use “low price” as the basis of your unique selling point.

Look at the automotive industry.

Why are people willing to spend twice or triple the money to buy a BMW when they can have a Honda for half or one-third of the price?

Competing on price alone will not get you far, you need some kind of Unique Selling Proposition so that you can thrive and destroy your competition.

One such unique selling point that you can offer to your subscribers or potential customers could be the beneficial and trusting relationships you have with them.

Remember that a lot of marketers and business owners still don’t understand the importance of building meaningful relationships with their subscribers or potential customers.

The majority of them are simply interested in making a quick sale or two out of you and then they move on to find the next victim customer.

That is why I said email marketing, when done correctly, can take your business to a whole new level you never thought possible. The important thing to remember is that your subscribers and potential clients are humans just like you, and if you are able to make them trust and believe in you, then selling to them becomes much easier.

Before you can engage in email marketing though, you need to have your squeeze page created and set up so that it’s ready to collect leads and subscribers.

If I showed you a way on how you can do exactly that in 2 minutes FLAT, would you be interested?

See the proof here

Give And Create Value First, Receive Second

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

If you are like most people out there, then you probably agree with me if I say that you like to receive better than you like to give.

Confused?

Let me explain a little.

If you were to choose between:

A. Taking/receiving something good

Or

B. Giving away something good

I seriously believe that you would choose A over B anytime.

Am I right?

You see, by nature we humans are selfish creatures. That is why almost everyone wants to take rather than to give.

I seriously believe that in today’s world if you want to thrive and move forward in your Internet business, you need to give, give, and give first before you can receive.

If you are just like every marketer or business owner out there who just want to sell, sell, and sell, it is very hard for you to make good impressions in your customers’ or would-be-customers’ eyes.

Well, actually you can still thrive and do very well in your business even if you sell, sell, and sell all the time, provided that:

1. You already have an established brand that people know, or

2. Your products and services are so unique and great that all your competitors can’t compare (let alone compete) with you.

However, if you or your business does not belong to the two categories stated above, yet the only thing you do is sell, sell, and sell, then you seriously need to consider doing things differently starting from now.

You need to create VALUE first for other people before they are willing to buy from you.

You need to start giving and stop selling (or taking)!

I’m not implying that you don’t have to sell. At the end of the day, we are still marketers and we need to sell to be able to make profits.

I’m simply saying that if you want to acquire new customers, you need to give first before you can receive. You need to create value for them first before they will buy from you (unless of course one of the two reasons above applies to you).

So how exactly do you create value?

Well, you can give them some kind of freebie that is related to the niche/field you are in. Do make sure that this freebie can benefit them in one way or another; otherwise your freebie will simply go down the drain.

For example, if you are talking about doing business online, you can always give them a free report, e-course, ebook, audio, or video tutorial. The point is to give them something useful that can benefit them.

If they feel that your freebie has benefited them, they will be more receptive to you and your products. If you continue to provide more value for them, they will slowly but surely trust you.

When you are at this stage, it will be a lot easier to sell your products and services to them.

Having said what I’ve said above, I want to point out that there are a lot of sites out there who simply sell and sell. There is, of course, nothing wrong with having sites who want to sell you something.

Yes, these sites may produce a few sales every day if their sales copy, traffic, and follow up “hard-sell” email messages are great.

But, I seriously believe that if you can build relationships and provide value first without the “hard-sell, pushy” email sales pitches, then you’ll be able to sell much more effectively.

Think about if for a moment.

The last time you went to the mall and some “pushy” salesman tries to hard-sell you on something, do you feel comfortable? Would you buy from him then and in the future?

Of course not!

Nobody wants to buy from a “pushy” salesman.

The whole article today focuses on why you should give and create value first before you can expect to receive anything, because it is very hard nowadays to just be able to make sales on your first encounter with your visitors. You must build beneficial relationships with your visitors first so that they trust you.

Believe me, trust is a very, very effective and vital component in successful selling.

This is also the reason why I highly recommend you build your own lists for your business. Put in some kind of opt-in form and ask for their email addresses in exchange for a freebie that they will get.

You have put in a lot of hard work to bring visitors to your site; don’t just let them go like that. If you don’t get their contact info, you lose them forever! There are millions of sites out there, what makes you think they will remember your site?

Always try to get their contact info so that you can follow up with them and give them more Free benefits such as tips and tricks related to your field. The point is to build good relationships with them on a consistent basis.

When beneficial relationships are built, trust will be formed. At the end of the day, selling your products and services to them become much easier.

6 Traits You Should Possess To Succeed In Internet Marketing

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

In my previous post, I’ve laid out 5 reasons why most people attempting to make money online fail.

Today we are going to look at what traits or characteristics you really need in order to be successful in building a real Internet business.

There are 6 traits that you should possess:

1. Just do it

Human beings tend to over-analyze and over-complicate things and situations. This is especially true if you’re new at something.

Beginners trying their hands in making money online typically suffer action-paralysis. They are so afraid of making a wrong move that they end up not taking any action at all.

Doing something, even though it’s wrong, is still better than not doing anything at all.

If you just sit there and do nothing, you are bound to learn and accomplish nothing.

If you do something, you are bound to learn something and may or may not accomplish something.

Hello? Can you see how you are missing out when you don’t do anything at all?

And the other thing is that people tend to want to become perfectionists.

How can you do things perfectly when you’re just starting out and you don’t really know much about the subject?

Heck, even advanced Internet marketers still do wrong things every day, yet they continue to make money!

So my advice is to just do it! Just like Nike’s slogan J Making that first move is always the hardest, but once you start going, it will be easier consequently.

2. Open mindset, positive attitude, and a desire to learn

You must possess an open mindset and a desire to learn so that you can learn and absorb new things every day.

Your attitude plays a major role in determining your success in whatever field you choose to indulge in, not just in Internet Marketing.

Be confident of yourself, think positive. DO NOT say discouraging things to yourself such as “I can’t do this” or “I’m not a techie guy therefore I can’t succeed” bla bla bla…

Have you heard of the saying “You become what you think”? Well, let me tell you that this is very true indeed.

So instead of reinforcing negative beliefs that you are not capable of doing this and that, why don’t you install positive beliefs to yourself?

3. Treat it as a real business

To succeed in any endeavor, you need to focus and put a lot of effort and time in doing things that will eventually lead to your goals.

You must treat Internet Marketing as a real business, just like you would if you were to open a brick and mortar business.

You can’t say things like “Well, I’m just trying so it’s okay if I don’t do this right”, or “I’ll just try and see if this works, if not then I’ll try something else different”.

The problem with saying these kinds of things to yourself is that you don’t treat it seriously and if you don’t treat is seriously you simply can’t get any results!

4. Stay consistent

Do small things on a consistent basis to ensure that you build your online assets over time.

Success in the Internet business or in any kind of business is not about doing what is required only once or twice or thrice. It’s about putting in your effort consistently.

When you are just starting out, you can definitely start working on your Internet business part time. It’s definitely not a problem.

Hey, I started part time too 2 years ago :P

The important thing to always remember is to build your Internet business on a consistent basis over time.

Little baby steps can eventually lead to big results too.

5. Stay motivated

Initially when you are just starting out, you won’t see any results. You must, however, stay motivated and just keep on going.

It’s not because it’s Internet Marketing that you are not seeing results. It takes time and dedication to see real results, and it applies to any new endeavor you embark.

When you are feeling down or discouraged, seek ways to motivate yourself by going to your local bookstore and buy motivational and inspirational books, audios, or videos. You can also go to Google and do a search on motivational sites.

Get yourself pumped up whenever you are feeling down alright?

6. Stay humble

Always stay humble.

Yes, even when you are already making some money, do stay humble please.

Nobody knows everything, and by staying humble you’ll always be able to learn new things.

If you are arrogant, you will think that you know everything and that you are the best out there. When this happens, you stop learning.

Given the rate at how technology advances every day, when you stop learning you will eventually be left behind. When this happens, be prepared to say goodbye to your Internet business!
